March 1 – 31, 2010*

Grandfathering

Owners of existing third-level .CO domains which were registered and active prior to July 30th, 2008, are eligible to grandfather the corresponding second-level domains. Any second-level domains which have not been grandfathered by the end of the phase will be deleted.

The procedure

The registry .CO Internet S.A.S. will identify all eligible third-level domain holders and load the equivalent second-level domains with auth codes into the SRS with a 1-year registration. The transfer results in a renew, which means that registrations of corresponding second-level .CO domains are effective for a period of two years (1 year transfer – 1 year renewal). Accordingly, registration fees for a minimum registration period of 2 years are applicable.

On March 1, 2010, .CO Internet will send an email to the eligible registrants including the auth code and instructions for transferring their domains to one of the accredited Registrars like InterNetX.

Matching applications

During the Grandfathering phase, .CO Internet S.A.S. will review all matching third-level domains (e.g., example.COM.CO & example.NET.CO). After this an email with the auth code and instructions will be sent to the registrant with the oldest registration. E.g. if Colombianos.NET.CO was registered prior to Colombianos.COM.CO, the .NET.CO registrant will be eligible for grandfathering. If the registrant with the oldest registration is not interested in the corresponding second-level .CO domain, the next one in line gets the possibility to register the domain.
